John Schreiner, based in Moscow, Russia, joined IMAX in the year 2000 and is Senior Vice President, Theatre Development, IMAX Corporation. The territories he manages include India, the former Soviet Union, the Middle East and South East Asia. Prior to accepting this role, John was the Director, Sales, IMAX Theatre Systems, Europe. John has covered Russia/CIS since 2002 and in that time has seen the market grow to be the third largest market for IMAX after the USA and China. In January 2013, he was named “Man of the Year” at Russia’s Blockbuster Awards which is an event honoring the best of Russian and Hollywood cinema as well as the industry’s top business leaders. He is the first and only non-Russian executive to be the recipient of this award in the 20-year history of this event. 

John has been involved in the leisure and entertainment business since 1996 where he was charged with the development of initially the Asian market and then Europe market for IWERKS Entertainment, a multifaceted film based entertainment company that boasted clients such as Universal Studios, The Lotte Group, and Madame Tussauds.

John grew up in Canada and has earned a B.A. in Asian Studies from the University of British Columbia. He has lived extensively abroad including two years in Taiwan, six years in Hong Kong, and twelve years in London. He is an avid horse rider and skier and is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
